PDF FAQ
Short answers about how the PDF tools work.
Yes. Every tool is free to use, with no account and no limit on how many files you process.
No. Every tool runs in your browser, so your PDFs stay on your device. The OCR tool loads its recognition engine and English language data from this site the first time you use it, and your browser caches the language data for later runs; your PDF is not sent anywhere.
There are 38 PDF tools: Merge PDF, Split PDF, Organize PDF, Extract pages, Delete pages, Replace a PDF page, Alternate and mix, Edit PDF, Sign PDF, Rotate PDF, Crop PDF, Add PDF page numbers, Add header and footer to PDF, Resize pages, Pages per sheet, Watermark PDF, Compare PDFs, Edit metadata, Protect PDF, Unlock PDF, Redact PDF, Flatten PDF, Remove annotations, Remove PDF metadata, Compress PDF, Grayscale PDF, PDF to JPG or PNG, JPG and PNG to PDF, Text, Markdown or HTML to PDF, Word to PDF, PDF to text, OCR PDF, PDF to Word, Fill PDF form, Scan to PDF, PDF to PowerPoint, Excel to PDF, PDF to Excel.
The file you are working on is kept in your browser, for this tab only, so it is still there when you switch tools. It is removed when you close the file or the tab, and it is never restored in another tab or after a few hours. Nothing is stored anywhere else.
You probably used Maximum compression, which turns each page into an image, as Flatten, Grayscale and Redact also do. Compress with Shrink images only keeps the text selectable. To get searchable text back from page images, run OCR.
The tools work in mobile browsers, but large files may be slow because all processing happens on your device.
