Compress audio
Make audio files smaller by choosing a lower bitrate or a target file size.
Drop an audio file
or drop it here, or paste. Up to 500 MB per file.
Runs in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.
Formats: the format list shows only what this browser can encode. MP3 and FLAC use an encoder that downloads the first time you choose them. M4A (AAC) is not available in every Firefox version.
Memory: audio is decoded in full, about 23 MB per minute of 48 kHz stereo, so long recordings can be slow on phones. Files that would need more than about 1 GB once decoded (about 45 minutes of 48 kHz stereo, or 90 of mono) are refused before decoding.
How to use Compress audio

Questions
No. Everything runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
Select Aim for a size and enter the size in MB. The tool picks the bitrate that should land near it. If even the lowest bitrate is too large for the length of the audio, it says so.
Lower bitrates make smaller files but sound worse. The tool starts at 96 kbps, and 128 to 192 kbps suits most music.
A target size or bitrate applies to the lossy formats (MP3, M4A, OGG, WebM). WAV and FLAC are lossless and ignore it.
