Extract audio from video: MP4 to MP3
Save the soundtrack of an MP4, MOV, WebM or MKV video as an audio file, without re-encoding when possible.
Drop a video
or drop it here, or paste. Up to 500 MB per file.
Runs in your browser. Your files are not uploaded.
Formats: the format list shows only what this browser can encode. MP3 and FLAC use an encoder that downloads the first time you choose them. M4A (AAC) is not available in every Firefox version.
Memory: audio is decoded in full, about 23 MB per minute of 48 kHz stereo, so long recordings can be slow on phones. Files that would need more than about 1 GB once decoded (about 45 minutes of 48 kHz stereo, or 90 of mono) are refused before decoding.

Questions
No. Everything runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
Only when it has to. When the video's audio already uses the chosen codec (AAC for M4A is common), it is copied without re-encoding, so no quality is lost and the bitrate setting does not apply.
Drop the MP4, choose MP3 as the format, select Apply and download the file.
Files up to 500 MB. Whether the audio can be read also depends on the codec and your browser. A video without an audio track gives an error.
