Reduce background noise in audio
Cut low rumble and mute the noise between words with a high-pass filter and a noise gate. Basic: hiss under speech stays.

Formats: the format list shows only what this browser can encode. MP3 and FLAC use an encoder that downloads the first time you choose them. M4A (AAC) is not available in every Firefox version.
Memory: audio is decoded in full, about 23 MB per minute of 48 kHz stereo, so long recordings can be slow on phones. Files that would need more than about 1 GB once decoded (about 45 minutes of 48 kHz stereo, or 90 of mono) are refused before decoding.
How to use Reduce background noise in audio
Choose an audio file or drop it on the page.
Choose the rumble filter: Off, or a cutoff in Hz.
Adjust the gate threshold, attack and release if needed; raise the threshold for noisier recordings.
Select Apply, listen to the result, then download.
Questions
No. Everything runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
It is basic. A high-pass filter removes low rumble and hum, and a noise gate mutes pauses between sounds. Hiss that plays under the voice or music itself stays.
The gate closes too fast or the threshold is too high. Lower the threshold or increase the release.
